Performance Tights

Material: Main fabric: 75% recycled polyester, 25% elastane Waistband fabric: 82% polyamide, 18% elastane

Andrea Myers, Senior Contributor
: Living in the Northeast, having several pairs of good running tights is a must. The best tights do not restrict motion when running fast, have pockets, and have a waistband that stays put. The On Performance Tights met all of my expectations, and then some. My favorite feature of these tights are the pockets. Runners are lucky in most tights if you get a small key pocket in the waistband, but these tights have a large rear zipper pocket that fits my iPhone and an even larger hip pocket that fits 4 gels (or another iPhone). These pockets make these tights ideal for cold weather long runs where you need to carry nutrition or when you need to stash your gloves or ear band during intervals. I received a women's size small, which fit true to size for me, and the tights stayed perfectly in place, with no slippage of the waistband. They have plenty of stretch to allow full hip motion for fast running. The fabric is ideal for running in the 20s or 30s, but I would reach for thicker fabric in temps below 20F. I expect to get a lot of use out of these tights in many winters to come.

Positives: excellent fit that does not restrict hip motion, great pockets
Negatives: material not warm enough for temps below 20F

Climate Shirt
Price: $119.99
Material: 100% Recycled polyester

Andrea Myers, Senior Contributor
: This shirt surprised me with its performance in winter weather. The waffle material feels relatively thin and doesn't feel like it would be particularly warm, but I found it to be ideal for temperatures in the low to mid 30s on its own, and in the mid to high 20s with an additional long sleeve base layer. The fabric wicks sweat very well and prevents the dreaded cold, wet winter running top feeling. I received a women's size small, which fit a little larger than most of my long sleeve winter tops, but I appreciated that I could layer under it without it being too tight. The shirt has watch holes and thumb loops, which are greatly appreciated features when running in cold weather. The watch holes have a fabric covering, which helps to keep your forearms warm even while providing access to your watch. I have other long sleeve running tops with watch holes that are too big and leave my wrists too exposed to the cold air. I like the quarter zip design because it allows easy venting to prevent overheating, and the zipper is easy to grasp, even when wearing gloves. This top also has a hip pocket, which is big enough to hold a couple of gels. The top is longer in the back than the front, which helps to keep the glutes warm when wearing tights. The Climate Shirt is a high quality, versatile winter running top that will help me get through many New England winters.

Positives: thinner material is warm and wicking, hip pocket is a great feature in a running top, fits large enough for layering, covered watch holes keep wrists and hands warm
Negatives: while larger fit works well for layering underneath, top fit too large to wear under a running jacket

On Zipped Hoodie
Price: $169.99
Material: 53% Recycled Polyester/29% Polyester/13% Lyocell/5% Elastane

Matt Klein, Founder and Chief Editor
: The On Zipped Hoodie is the ultimate cold weather and comfortable take on the everyday classic. The fit is slightly large in my normal men's medium, providing a comfortable, relaxed fit that I would want for a hoodie. The material used is extremely soft, comfortable and warm. This hoodie excels during travel or casual use during cooler temperatures. I have worn this in low 30 degrees Fahrenheit (0-5 degrees Celsius) weather and have been fine. It is not so warm that it cannot handle moderate temperatures, but its ability to get warm and stay warm quickly makes it far better in lower temperatures. It does get a bit too warm during warm temperatures, but I have continued to wear it due to how comfortable it is. The front features a full-length zipper that is sturdy and two large pockets. The pockets have plenty of room for most things and are secure enough for walking. Any large items will bounce for running, so you may want to limit storage to smaller items during activities. This is one of my favorite pieces of apparel and my only issue is that my cats also love this. They repeatedly take this hoodie and I have watched one drag it across our house to find a more comfortable spot to sleep. All joking aside, it does get quite warm which does limit its use to colder temperatures. So it functions best during cold weather running or moderate weather casual use.

Positives: Extremely comfortable, relaxed fit, great for casual use, excellent during cold weather
Negatives: Spouses and Pets will take it from you, limited to cooler weather
